We are delighted to share that the Gloucestershire Community Rail Partnership (GCRP) has been shortlisted for six categories in this year’s Community Rail Awards.

This recognition highlights the commitment and drive of our team, partners, funders and communities in championing sustainable travel, access, inclusivity, and community engagement across Gloucestershire.

Here’s a closer look at the categories we have been shortlisted for and the projects that gained us the recognition:

Sustainable Travel Booklet shortlisted in ‘Involving Children and Young People’

Funded by Great Western Railway and Community Rail Network, this fun and quirky booklet aims to inspire younger audiences to explore sustainable travel options, including rail. By blending creativity with education, the booklet engages children and families in rethinking their travel habits while fostering a connection with the railway.

Getaway shortlisted in ‘Empowering Diverse Groups’

In collaboration with Oxfordshire CRP and funded by Chiltern Railway and Great Western Railway, this project is a testament to partnership working at its best. Getaway empowers communities by promoting inclusive travel experiences and has been a flagship project for the young Oxfordshire partnership as well.

Black History Month Every Month in ‘Most Effective Communications Campaign’

Our Black History Every Month campaign saw us launch an exhibition at Stroud station, featuring a creative map highlighting Black history across the region. This project brought important stories to the forefront, and celebrated the county’s rich cultural heritage and links to the railway. Our mission was to encourage ongoing reflection and understanding, not just during Black History Month, but throughout the year.

Cotswolds Car Free shortlisted in ‘Photo Competition’

This nomination features a striking image of passengers on a train, studying the Moreton-in-Marsh Integrated Travel map. This photo symbolises our commitment to inclusive access and sustainable leisure travel, linking beautifully to our efforts in tourism and responsible travel.

Youth Travel Toolkit shortlisted in ‘Influencing Positive Change & Sustainability’

Funded by Great Western Railway and Community Rail Network, the Youth Travel Toolkit is a practical resource designed to empower young people to travel more sustainably and independently. The toolkit includes engaging materials aiming to equip tourism organisations and the local businesses with the resources and knowledge needed to address the travel and transport challenges faced by young people.

An Innovative Approach to Responsible Tourism shortlisted in ‘Tourism and Leisure Award’

Funded by Great Western Railway, Cross Country Trains, and informed by our Community Rail & Destination Toolkit, this project focuses on promoting sustainable tourism across the Cotswolds. By encouraging car-free exploration and providing accessible travel resources, we’re helping to create greener and more inclusive leisure opportunities for everyone.

We’re incredibly proud of these achievements and the recognition they bring to the communities we serve.

Winners will be announced at the 20th anniversary Community Rail Awards which will take place on Thursday 13 March 2025, at Newcastle Civic Centre.

This milestone Awards will also align with the celebrations of Railway 200, the 200th anniversary of the birth of the modern railway.
